Paraguay won for the first time in Lima against a totally dazzled Peru – El diario andino
The Peruvian team was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup against Uruguay in Montevideo and had to play, by commitment, before a Paraguay already classified. And when we thought that the whitish could not fall lower, they decided to dig.
The Guarani had not won in Lima by qualifiers, scratching two draws in eight matches played in the Peruvian capital. However, before an inoperative whitish in attack, they took a triumph that they only needed to break a statistic.
Matías Galarza scored the only goal of the match, one that did not help them with Brazil in score, which fell on the top, but not to take away the fifth place.
The national team played in the group stage of the 1994 tie in Lima against the Guarani with a 2-2 draw, with goals from Darío Muchrotrigo and Jorge Soto for Peru and a double by Alfredo Mendoza for the Paraguayans.
The other draw was for the 2010 World Cup, which concluded with a pale 0-0.
After that, everything was a victory for Peru, a record that remained to Peru’s disastrous campaign on his way to the 2026 World Cup, which had many statistics for oblivion.
Peru barely scored 6 goals in 18 games, did not score playing outside Lima, added just 12 points and only won twice with three coaches in office: Juan Reynoso, Jorge Fossati and Óscar Ibáñez.
